Sabah Al-Ahmad Natural Reserve
A reserve established since 1987 under the supervision of the Voluntary Work Center, with an area of 330 km2. It was announced according to the Supreme Council for the Environment Decision No. 7/2016. This reserve is considered the largest terrestrial ecosystem designated as a reserve for topographic and biological importance, in addition maintaining the management of renewable natural resources. It includes a cliff with a height of 116 meters from the coastal mud flats and salt marshes and sand dunes on Kuwait Bay. as well as gravel plains extending north from the top of the hills of Jal Al-Zor leading to Wadi Al-Rimam in the northwestern corner of the reserve. Most of the reserve lands are sandy with gravel in the northern regions, and there is a large pool of treated water. In the reserve, there are 39 species of plants in the coastal areas, where the environment of salt marshes, and 87 species in the desert area. The important plant groups in the reserve are Al-Arfaj, Ramth, Al-Shanan, and Al-Haram, which dominates the coastal areas with Al-Thulith and Al-Maradag. There is also the famous "Talha" tree in the reserve. There are also about 151 species of birds, of which 14 are endemic or semi-resident. 21 types of reptiles, including lizards, lures and others, and 22 species of mammals, including 7 endangered species such as fennec fox, honey badger and others.
