Sulaibikhat Gulf Beach (Al-Doha) Natural Reserve

A reserve established since 1988, with an area of 4.5 km2. Under the supervision of the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, it was announced according to the decision of the Supreme Council for the Environment No. 7/2016. The purpose of its establishment is to provide a sanctuary for both endemic and migratory birds during the migration seasons as well as in the winter. It is one of the natural reserves that have been identified as an important site for birds in the region by the International Bird Association. The reserve includes a large area of mud marshes in the northeast of the Doha Peninsula, which is submerged in high tide conditions, and sandy surfaces support some types of salt-tolerant plants. The wastewater flowing water from the nearby chalets and the amusement park supports the presence of reed aggregations. There is also a main outlet for cooling water used by the desalination and power plants in Doha Power Plant. The reserve consists of two parts, between them a number of private chalets and their own service road. The reserve includes species of plants tolerant to salinity. The common plants in the reserve are the Thulith, Shannah, Sweidh, Al-Haram, and Khirza, in addition to the reed plant. At least 70 bird species have been recorded. Among the species commonly found in the reserve are the gray heron, rock heron, flamingo, gull, crab plover, English plover, little collared plover, and others. The mudflats also support large concentrations of hopper species, and species of crab, including endemic ones.
