Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Bridge Project

The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge project is one of the most important huge projects listed in according the development plan of the country and it is one of the largest and most magnificent marine bridges in the world. The project is located in the Gulf of Kuwait between Kuwait City and Al-Sabiya area, and it is considered as one of the largest projects in the aspect of transportation and infrastructure in Kuwait and the whole area, whereas The main bridge path (Al-Sabiya link bridge) starts from the Shuwaikh area with the intersection of Al-Ghazali Highway and Jamal Abdul Nasser Street to cross Kuwait bay to Al-Sabiya in the north with a length of approximately 37.5 km. The main bridge path in each direction contains three traffic lanes and an emergency lane, and the design speed of the bridge is 120 km / hour, which contributes to raising the level of traffic liquidity.

The bridge includes two artificial islands, the first is near Kuwait City with an area of about 300 thousand square meters, and the second is near the city of Subiya with a similar area. The two islands include government buildings serving the bridge, a fuel station and Spaces designated for future investments, and the project also includes a six-kilometer long road connecting to Al-Subiya Beach in the form of aesthetic and a sense of the magnificence of the bridge. This is in addition to the height of the main bridge for clothes, with a height of 23 meters, with a navigational opening of 120 meters, which is designated for the passage of ships. Also the bridge contains the path of the Doha Link Bridge, with a length of approximately 9 km, as it aims to solve traffic congestions from the Shuwaikh area, especially on the Ghazali Expressway resulting from the traffic of large trucks (entering and leaving) the Shuwaikh Port and working to transfer it to the Doha Road. Work on the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Bridge project, one of the most important mega projects included in the development plan for the State of Kuwait, is expected to be completed in early November 2018. The main goal of building the Sheikh Jaber Bridge is to shorten the distance between the cities of Kuwait and the new boys, From 104 km traveling in about 90 minutes to 37.5 km ,the vehicles will interrupt it in less than 30 minutes, and it will work to ensure complete flow of traffic towards Kuwait City, Shuwaikh and Doha Ports, Jaber Al-Ahmad City, and the Doha region, which connects the south of the country with the north to accommodate the increasing and expected traffic density during the next 30 years. Realizing the vision of His Highness the Amir of the country, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, by transforming the State of Kuwait into a financial and commercial center, in addition to the prosperity of the Silk City, the future city of the State of Kuwait that will enlighten the country during the year 2035 AD. The project also includes the construction of a sea bridge that starts from the Shuwaikh Port and Free Zone area, and crosses John Kuwait to the west, passing by Umm Al-Naml Island to the Doha region, and then connects to the Doha Expressway with a length of 12.4 km.

The construction work of the bridge included the implementation of a number of about 1500 buried piers with lengths of more than 50 meters in some locations and diameters of up to 3 meters, implementation of about 1,200 pillars, and about 960 of pre-cast box sectors whose lengths range from 40 to 60 meters, in addition to a center Durable for visitors, power transformers, ITS and SCADA systems, they are integrated systems for monitoring and controlling the length of the bridge path for vehicle pass

On the environmental side of the project, and in the interest of the project's participation in the project on the marine environment, it is receiving great attention in the Environmental Protection Project 42/2014, and is receiving the attention of the Ministry of Public Works and the contractor of the contract , it has reminded from the beginning of the construction project and the design period that the construction work should not cause with minimum limit of effecting on the marine creatures , as it has been considered the listing of construction works that related to the bridge to protect the creature being in the sea ,consequently, the best construction techniques have been applied in order to protect the marine environment while adhering to the standards, regulations and regulations approved by the Environment Public Authority. An integrated environmental study has also been done under the supervision of the Environment Public Authority, where the study included a focus on factors affecting the surrounding environment where measurements of gas concentrations are taken In the atmosphere and biological analyzes of microorganisms in seawater by accredited government laboratories. Incubator shrimp habitats have been established that will offset the loss caused by the construction of the bay of South Island, It is an integrated environmental compensation project for shrimp settlements, marine biology, seaweed and coral reefs in the region, where many structures have been developed with special engineering shapes. These settlements consist of concrete bases of approximately 1000 units, each of 85 cm in length and two meters in length, and are designed in the form of engineering unique which helps enhance shrimp behavior and increases the volume of vegetation and helps passage of water currents in it. It is made of materials that have no effect on the marine environment in three marine settlements near the southern island where the neighborhoods were moved to their new lands.

It was also documented through comparative monitoring data that showed an increase in the animal biodiversity and vegetation cover of marine algae communities in Kuwait Bay. Besides, sea water quality is monitored seasonally, vegetation is monitored, fish and shrimp are monitored in Kuwait Bay and also continuous monitoring of air quality, noise and vibrations, silt levels and The cumulative average of the soil, in addition to the management of solid and liquid waste "sanitation" in all project sites during the various stages of the project, and sending periodic reports to the General Authority for the Environment. All these works were carried out under the supervision of the Public Authority for the Environment and the consultant of the approved contractor and the consultant of the project, and the marine neighborhoods are constantly monitored and monitored to ensure their adaptation to the new environment within the framework of an environmental monitoring program under the supervision of the Public Environment Authority.

The ecological survey has also been used by diving periodically to monitor any changes and ensure the abundance of marine organisms, and will be taken into account to reduce the size of marine works to the minimum possible during the period of reproduction of marine life and its first stages of growth, where the presence of larvae in shallow places is continuously monitored, and there is also The EDMIS environmental data management information system in the project Which works through the available environmental monitoring data and in permanent contact with the concerned authorities. Reports are also submitted to the Environment Public Authority for regular review and recommendations. The Sheikh Jaber Bridge project comes with many important economic benefits, as it is considered a global landmark at the level of the world, along with the tourist attractions of the region and the services that the project will provide and the speed of connection between Kuwait City and the new Kuwaiti cities such as Al-Sabya and Al-Harir, which represents the distribution and extension The natural horizontal of the State of Kuwait.
