Kuwait Advancing 52 Rank
in the Indicator of Environmental Performance International

The State of Kuwait recorded a qualitative jump in the global environmental performance index issued by the Center for Environment of the American University of Yale, ranking the 61st out of 180 countries subject to evaluation after it was ranked 113th in 2016.

According to this new assessment, Kuwait ranked second in the index after the State of Qatar, according to the last report issued yesterday by the mentioned center.

In this regard sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Director General of the Public Authority for the Environment valued the efforts of the state’s governmental, private and voluntary institutions working in improving the environmental conditions in the country and mechanisms for dealing with new policies of the Environment Public Authority in the light of the Environmental Protection Law No. 42 of 2014 and its amendments, which resulted in this remarkable progress of the State’s website Kuwait at the international level, as well as the efforts of colleagues working in the authority, which reflected their efforts positively to highlight part of the development in managing the environmental regard in the country.

And that the preliminary evaluation of the report shows the significant improvement of the State of Kuwait in most environmental sectors, as the report also indicates stability and retreat in specific indicators that will be subject to scientific evaluation from the Environment Public Authority teams for the purpose of scrutiny and follow-up in order to achieve the development and improvement of Kuwait's classification in forthcoming reports.

Al-Ahmed pointed that this evaluation comes to confirm the continuation of the positive approach taken by the State of Kuwait represented by the Public Authority for the Environment in managing environmental sectors, which also resulted in the classification of the State of Kuwait from the World Health Organization last year among the top 10 countries in the world in the sector of ensuring clean drinking water and collect and treatment of sanitary waste.

He concluded his speech by affirming the continuation of the commission's efforts in cooperation with the governmental institutions concerned, with the appreciated support of the Council of Ministers and the nation.
