This bird has recently been recorded in the State of Kuwait; this sighting marks the fourth record of the species in both Kuwait and the Western Palearctic region.
The Variable Wheatear inhabits areas extending from Turkmenistan and southern Kazakhstan to northern and western Pakistan, and it winters in Southwest Asia and the southeastern Arabian Peninsula.
It feeds primarily on insects, small beetles, and insect larvae, and also catches butterflies and moths in flight.
